Mastiha Chiou

Greek Mastiha Chiou, or mastic, is a crystal, resinous spice and natural chewing gum that hails exclusively from Chios. It has been produced there since antiquity and is long known for its medicinal value. A highly aromatic, therapeutic spice, scientifically proven as a salve against stomach ulcers,  and effective as a gum in promoting oral health. Mastiha has a unique flavor profile which if you can a hold of you'll always wanna use! In Greek traditional cuisine, mastiha is used in bread-baking, to give flavor to certain pastries, especially Easter  biscuits, and the famous tsoureki .
